Unlike Chandrayaan-2, which included an Orbiter, a lander and a rover, Chandrayaan-3 will only have a lander and rover, along with a propulsion module, ISRO chairman K Sivan said
Chandrayaan-2 was a highly complex mission that aimed to explore the south pole of the moon by studying all the areas, Combining the exosphere, the surface as well as the sub surface of the moon in a single mission. But the mission remained unsuccessful when the Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander had a hard landing, and crashed on the lunar surface, even though it managed to complete 90-95% of its objectives
If the mission is successful, it would india the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, and boost its credentials as a low-cost space power So far, Only Russia (The Soviet Union), US and China have successfully put a mission on the Moon's surface
As per ISRO, the total cost of Chandrayaan-3 mission will be over 600 Crores. In comparision, the total cost of the Chandrayaan-2 mission was 960 crores
